Spending the money, that’s what! Do it!      Bad News For Those Awaiting smart fortwos? The world's tenth largest economy, Brazil, will start to receive smarts.  Starting in mid-2009, the smart will also be available in China. This brings the smart to 39 countries.  Our concern is the consequences this may have on those still waiting to take delivery of their new smart fortwos in the US.  The wait is now up to 16 months, or more, with a purported 75,000 on the waiting list. With 2008 US deliveries something over 25,000 and production at the smartville, France, plant near maximums, what is going to happen?  Sure sounds like pushing the envelope way too far, to me.  The way the fortwo was brought to the US indicated that Mercedes really wasn't sure they had a market here.  Obviously, they do.  But they are opening two huge markets and unable to meet current demand. It would appear that both China and Brazil will have to have manufacturing plants to meet their countries demand.  Just my opinion. Being a Portuguese citizen, she has full medical coverage. Wonderful! The surgery went well and now she is undergoing physical therapy and doing just great. Porto, by the way, is where the Port wine comes from. We're taking orders. For Christmas, we shall go to the beautiful village of Caminha, way up on the northern border with Spain, and spend time with her daughter, son-in-law and beautiful 2-1/2 year old grandaughter.
